A Comparison of the Stack Emissions at the Lafarge Bath Cement Plant from the Combustion of Fossil Fuels versus a mixture of Low Carbon Fuels and Fossil Fuels

This report provides an analysis and evaluation of whether emissions concentrations changed due to the introduction of low carbon fuels (LCF) at the Lafarge, Bath cement plant. The concentration of emissions were determined by stack sampling and compared to baseline emissions concentrations determined in 2010, 2012, and 2014. Methods of analysis included the use of the SPSS software package’s independent sample t-test function. Testing whether there was statistical evidence to reject the assumption that the means for different tests were the same, the analyses identified parameters that needed to be examined in more detail. These were reviewed to determine if the difference in mean values was unlikely to have occurred due to variability in the sampling methods. Emissions data generally fit a log-normal distribution, and therefore prior to analysis the data was log-normally transformed. Parameters that produced t-statistics less than 0.05 were examined to determine the likelihood t...
